New law allows educators to carry over Act 48 hours
A new state law allows professional educators to carry forward up to 50 Act 48 continuing professional education hours.
Under the new rules, if an educator has completed more than 180 professional development hours during the five-year compliance period, that educator can carry over up to 50 hours into the next five-year compliance period. This rule applies as long as those credits were earned in the final two years of the five-year cycle that began after July 13, 2016.
The Public School Code was further amended to extend "each professional educator's current continuing professional education compliance period" by one year. Note: This is a one-time only extension. After this compliance period, the compliance period under the statute is five years.
